Literature Text

Harken swiftly to the midnight cries - wallowed afar!
Hear to its calls - the nightingale's choked lament,
As it breathes and sighs its final song,
Just as I sigh mine.

O, tranquil sleep, come bless me!
Fly unto me with thine snow-white wings purest,
For I long to be touched by that without taint,
So I may bathe in respiteful tears to cleanse my heart,
As this darkness does the same.

O, tranquil sleep, come for me!
Be near me when my mind comes to fade;
When my streams of crimson tide cease to flow;
When the shadow cometh to freeze me still,
To lay me to rest in the bitter cold.

Unforgiving friend, I beseech thee - our moment is true!
With your scarred blanket of elegant relief, envelop me;
With the last of your debts to me, encase me in thee,
Where we shall ne'er part and so remain forever more,
Far from they who held us untrue.

A final moment, I plea to mine self, to put at rest -
To lay to sleep the ashes of our memories afar,
Fading visions of eternal dreams, shared and scattered,
The beating resonance of our fragmented hearts bleeding;
The broken music of our dying dreams.

A piece written spontaneously after feeling motivated by a song composed by the artist group, 'Draconian'.

While I drew some inspiration from their song, my own piece is not intended to reflect the same themes (at least, not all of them) - rather, it is my own collaboration of thoughts and feelings experienced the couple of days prior to treating myself once more to the above jewel, and more notably the few hours immediately before doing so.

I rarely provide synopses for my own work, though considering I was so eager to write this particular piece so spontaneously, I deem it necessary to state that this piece is somewhat reflective of the song used for inspiration: it explores a crumbling relationship through the perspective of one lover and, ultimately, the blissfully joint 'romanticide' of both he and she as a result.
